Large Diameter Heavy Duty CNC Turned Shafts in Titanium Alloy
Wishtek turns heavy duty shafts and roll bodies up to Ø300 mm and 2000 mm long in titanium alloys, Inconel 718, duplex stainless steel and hardened alloy steel. Turning runs on heavy bed horizontal lathes with steady rest support and coolant-through tooling, so long slender parts keep concentricity instead of drifting in the middle of the cut.
What makes this heavy turning capability different
- Ø300 mm swing with steady rest support: Long shafts over 1000 mm run between centres with hydraulic steady rests, holding straightness within 0.02 mm per metre instead of the bow that unsupported turning produces.
- Titanium and Inconel machining know-how: Low cutting speed programmes, high pressure coolant and PVD coated inserts control heat build-up in Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718, protecting surface integrity and avoiding work hardening chatter.
- Hard turning instead of grinding: Induction hardened shafts up to 58 HRC are finished in the lathe with CBN inserts to Ra 0.8 µm, removing the grinding queue from your lead time.
- Single setup for turning and milling: Mill-turn centres drill, keyway and cross-hole in the same clamping, keeping bore-to-OD alignment that a second operation would lose.
